If you are newly retired you can find new friends and fulfillment as a volunteer with our Branch. Please consider contributing a few moments of your spare time to the Branch. The work will provide you with an opportunity to learn more about your branch and organization. We currently have opportunities with the following teams.
The Branch is currently looking for a Member with web design experience to join the Web Master Team. Work from home on a very interesting and fulfilling position. The web employs a user friendly language and can be learned in a very short time. You must have a computer that is fairly new. For more information contact our Office at 250-712-6213.
Time has taken it's toll, and some Branch Members are moving on, they need to be replaced. If you are interested in joining the Board, you need not have to choose a postion. If you have a desire to help, but are not sure you are able, at this time, to fill in a position, then we would love to have you as a Director at Large. Here you can attend Board meetings and take your time identifying a position you might wish to try and fill.
Health Benefits Team
Members who have an interest in assisting the Branch on this Team, will be involved in researching articles of interest for use in the Branch Newsletter, Web Site Health Services page, or information that can be used in a Members’ Learning Event. You will be working from home, you time is your own. There will be an expectation, that you would be forwarding your article(s) for a particular due date. From time to time, the Team will gather for a “brain storming” session. At the same time, you will start to become more informed about the health issues facing our members. Each Member will receive, a package of instructions, to help in the transition to the Team. You are very welcome, and we would be happy to have your help.
Care and Concern Team
The members of this team need to have an affinity to help those who are in need of personal support and empathy. The duties may involve a hospital or home visit to check on, and to ensure a member in need, is receiving sufficient help. You may be asked to line up transportation to events for members who do not have any way to attend. You will be guided in your performance by the Team Leader. The Branch regularly sends Get Well care, Bereavement Cards to members. You will involved in a Team that can bring you great personal satisfaction.
Pension Benefits Team
Members who have an interest in pension benefits, and all that that entails, will find this Team very interesting. You will be expected to familiarize yourself with the benefits accrued to federal retirees. From time to time the Team Leader may assign some research about a particular issue that he/she will need to assist a member. You will have an opportunity to learn as much as you wish, about a benefit(s) that are of the utmost importance to the members of our Branch. Challenge yourself and expand your knowledge of this most important benefit. From time to time, there will be “brainstorming” opportunities to expand your knowledge.
Membership Administration Team
This Team is involved in keeping control of the Membership listings, updating, editing, adding to and on occasion deleting memberships. It is a collaborative team and they meet periodically. They also been known to partake in a coffee and goodies, while it is work, it is also not devoid of just getting together. This is a very important part of what keeps the Branch current and able to meet the many needs of our Members.
Yet again a very important part of what makes the Branch run. When you recieve notices of events, luncheons, golf tournaments or the very popular Okanagan Central, this is the team that is most involved. It could be as simply as joining the "Lick and Stick" group, who make sure the mailouts get to you. Again, I am told they also indulge in the coffee and goodies time.
Salvation Army Campaign
Each year as the Christmas season approaches volunteers from among our branch members make a much appreciated contribution to the work of the Salvation Army in helping families over the holiday season. The volunteers look after the famous Christmas Kettles for a couple of days at either the Wal-Marts or Superstores in Kelowna and West Kelowna encouraging passers-by to donate to the cause. In return our efforts are recognized with an accompanying sign that features the NAFR logo.
