Federal Retirees Golf Tournament, September 14, 2017

"Come one, come all –we’re golfing this fall" was our call to members inviting them to golf in the “Just for Fun” Golf Tournament September 14th at 10 A. M. at Mission Creek Golf Course. Golf and lunch were only $30

Twenty-five golfers participated, some real golfers and some with limited golf experience, but everyone had a great time as the game was a version of the Mexican Scramble format, so that people could play from the best ball etc. Everyone played 9 holes, and play moved along smoothly. Five members, who were unable to golf, joined in for lunch.

Following the golf, lunch was served in the Fore Restaurant, at the Golf Course, where everyone could mingle and chat. Thanks to Luke and staff for an enjoyable lunch and the efficient service. Everyone received a ‘150th Canada Birthday cookie, made by Traci Mitchell and the membership team as well as a 150th commemorative bag.golf lunch2

Norm Robidoux looked after a 50/50 draw; the funds that NAFR receives go toward sponsoring a needy family at Christmas. For this draw, the winner, Linda Mackay won $50 as did the Branch.

The winning team of Allan Crowder, Ralph Livingston, Karen Zayonce and Ruth Abercrombie came in with an amazing score of 34. Congratulations team, you’ve set the bar high for next year!

Those who attended, commented how enjoyable the event was, plus the weather cooperated with a warm sunny day. Some new members and several who are interested in joining, attended and indicated they were interested in other social events which was good to hear, since we are working hard at encouraging new members to get involved.

Federal Retirees - Central Okanagan Branch “make a difference” helping

variety2

The branch received an emergency request from Variety asking if we could assist them with their annual Boat for Hope event- the land lubbers portion. The event in Kelowna had been postponed and the seafaring portion cancelled due to the smoke-filled Kelowna air creating an apparent shortage of much needed volunteers to assist with the event.

Your branch was able to respond on short notice and 4 members made their way to Kerry Park, giving Variety some much needed and much appreciated assistance with the day’s activity. We will likely hear from them again in the future.
